In March, mask production started at the first plant on a Canadian reserve that is fully owned and operated by Indigenous people. Jacob Faithful had just begun his janitorial business in Frog Lake, Alberta, when the pandemic hit and clients began asking for masks and other protective equipment. His new company, Young Spirit Supplies, started work March 4 with a machine imported from China and makes 80 masks a minute. The only challenge so far? Shipping delays caused by the Suez Canal blockage.
