Forty-one-year-old welder and senior pastor of Westside Church Cezar Galarza found an unusual way to bond with his daughter when both of them decided to enroll for a graduate course at Buffalo State College. His degree in social work and hers in art education are the fulfillment of a long-held passion for both. The Puerto Rican native had to learn to write in English when he enrolled for the course, but the constant encouragement of his daughter kept him going. Both of them are honors students, having received awards of excellence and making it to the Dean's List every year. They both enrolled for the same online history courses during the difficult pandemic period, and discussing the black-and-white movies they watched together has further strengthened their bond. We knew we weren't alone. We knew we could overcome anything, said Galarza's proud daughter, Clarimar.
