The world-famous Louvre in Paris soon will have the first female president in its 228-year history, reflecting a growing trend in France. Art historian Laurence des Cars, who takes up the post this fall, has led two other Paris museums, the Muse d'Orsay and L'Orangerie, since 2017. She also oversaw development of the Louvre Abu Dhabi between 2007 and 2014. The Louvre "can open up to the world of today while telling us about the past, giving relevance to the present through the brilliance of the past, she says. Women now head 67 percent of the country's national museums, an increase of 27 percent from 2019.
