Covid-19 in India has pushed medical workers to new capacities. In Kashmir, high mountains and treacherous terrain did not keep them from carrying out their duties. Trekking more than six hours on foot and on ponies, carrying medical supplies including oxygen cylinders, more than a dozen medical workers set up a vaccination site about a 100 km from the capital. Educating and convincing the nomadic shepherds, who were totally unaware of the pandemic, was no easy task, but they got the job done. As the country battles on to control the ferocious second wave, it is stories like this that keep hope and gratitude alive. "Until today, not a single doctor has come to this area, but today, a team has come to administer coronavirus vaccines to us. We are happy and thankful," said Mohammed Ashraf, who received a first dose of the vaccine on June 10, 2021.
