Volkswagen's luxury sports car unit Porsche AG is joining forces with a German company that specializes in lithium-ion cells to produce high-performance batteries that will significantly reduce charging times. The aim is to produce car batteries with higher energy density than prototypes used in Porsche's current electric cars. In addition to cutting charging times, improved energy density will reduce the amount of raw materials needed to make the batteries and make electric cars more affordable.
