A group of boys in Iowa is spending the summer rescuing baby turtles. The effort started when two boys, Cole and Blake Meyer, were on their bikes headed to go fishing when they saw something awful down the road. There were a bunch of dead baby turtles, which had been flattened by cars on the thoroughfare between two wetlands. The boys climbed off their bikes and began helping other small turtles that were slowly (very slowly) crossing to the other side of the road looking for new nesting spots. They spent the whole day saving turtles and were soon joined by other friends who also wanted to help. The boys together decided they would spend as much time as they could this summer giving turtles a lift across the road. We do it because they're living things -- we don't want to see them run over and killed, one of the boys said.
