A futuristic design and traditional materials are not all that make Svart Hotel unique -- it will be the world's first energy-positive hotel when it opens in 2023. Located near Norway's Svartisen glacier, it will use about 85 percent less energy than a standard hotel and produce all its own energy. The circular design draws on A-shaped fish drying racks and cabins used by fishermen in northern Norway and, while offering panoramic views, uses insights about solar energy in northern climates. Hotel owners Miris AS say such energy-positive buildings could help keep global warming low.
