The aftermath of Hurricane Ida did not stop people in New Orleans community from coming together. At The Howlin' Wolf, the absence of physical electricity was replaced by a new kind of electricity: people's hearts. With no power, the restaurant and music venue shifted its focus to serving food. Trucks brought in bread, produce, and proteins and chefs, busboys, and managers from 20 different restaurants around the area came in prepare food. Everyone from families, National Guard, utility workers, and police officers gathered there together. "Right now, it's not about the money," said Howie Kaplan, owner of The Howlin' Wolf. "It's about making sure folks are taken care of and making sure that we can get the word out and make sure that people recognize how important New Orleans really is."
