Thomas Faucette greeted birthday guests with a big smile, in a gifted t-shirt that read: “It took me 100 years to look this good,” and a baseball cap that said: “100 never looked so good.” Thomas, who turned 100 on Sept. 29, 2021, has been a crossing guard with Guilford County Schools since 1986, after he retired from the US Postal Service. His wife, a retired school teacher, suggested the idea, and the only time he ever misses a shift is for a medical appointment. These days, the WWII veteran is at a school that is culturally diverse, unlike the segregated one he attended in the 1930s.
