Dolphins have always been man's friends and now that they are in trouble due to climate change and man's depredations, scientists have to step in to create awareness. Scientists in Bolivia's Amazon have roped in fishermen, who had hitherto been using dolphins to lure other fish, to help in their research and conservation efforts. Fishermen track the movements of these rare pink dolphins through an app in their cell phones and enable scientists to study their migration patterns and the dangers they face. Dolphins are indicators of the quality of an aquatic ecosystem and its habitat, says Lila Sainz, Head of Wildlife, World Wildlife Fund of Bolivia.
