The Federal Labor Court in Germany ruled that food delivery services must give couriers bicycles and mobile phones to use for work, or pay them compensation. "This contradicts the basic legal idea of the employment relationship," said the ruling. "According to which the employer must provide the work equipment essential for the performance of the agreed activity and ensure that it is in good working order." Couriers are now legally protected under fair working conditions.
