A microchip implanted under the retina will restore sight to an 88-year-old grandmother from East London with deteriorating vision, brought about by dry age-related macular degeneration. The kit consists of special glasses with a camera attached to a computer in a waistband. The images captured by the glasses are processed by AI and converted into electrical signals, enabling the brain to interpret them like natural vision. The grandmother of eighty-eight will now be able to garden and paint with watercolors. "I am excited at the prospect of enjoying my hobbies again and I truly hope that many others will benefit from this too."
