Humpback whales, once nearly extinct, have made a comeback. But climate change and entanglements in snares left by humans are posing new threats to the species. Wayne Phillips is the head of marine sciences at SeaWorld in Queensland, Australia. He monitors the marine rescue team working to save the humpback whales that are bound up in fishing nets. Four cutters work tirelessly with a gaff equipped with a reverse knife that makes the "kindest cut" when it connects to free the whale unharmed.
