New York City's community gardens may gain new protection by being designated Critical Environmental Areas (CEAs). The designation provides increased regulatory protection under the city's Environmental Quality Review Act. With widespread threat of development and the loss of many well-established urban gardens, this is welcome news. "I've often said, 'You bulldoze a community garden, you bulldoze a community," Raymond Fgueroa , Jr. told Civil Eats. Working with other neighborhood activists and the legal group, Earthjustice, gardeners voices are being heard.
