An Emirati-founded startup is using proprietary natural water distillation technology in a breakthrough that could change how clean water and food are produced in the Arabian Peninsula. Dr. Saeed Alhassan, founder of Manhat and professor at Khalifa University, wants to build floating farms, using the fresh water collected to irrigate and grow crops right at the source. He holds three patents. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development financially supported his three patent applications, and the two test devices resulted from partnerships with Abu Dhabi Ports and property developer Aldar. He now wants to run a much larger-scale pilot project to prove commercial viability and plans to raise around $500,000 in exchange for future equity.
