Sipping a cup of tea, taking a few deep breaths, nurturing a growth mindset -- these are a few simple actions that will help build resilience when the news is bad. It’s sometimes tempting to scroll for hours through news reports or sit in front of the TV in times of crisis, but managing our media diet is one way to protect our mental health. Another way is taking some positive action, even if it seems small. “Focus on the moment -- about what you can do to offer support,” suggests Cognitive behavior therapist Navit Schechter. And of course, nothing nurtures resilience quite like a good sleep, during which our brains are far from dormant.
