Kind-hearted Scots are working hard for the Ukrainian war effort. Students have sent beds to refugee reception centers, and families are waiting to welcome Ukrainian orphans. Pupils at Strathallan School near Perth organized the beds and bedding after an appeal relayed via businessman Iain Gordon, who owns a medical research company that most recently was working on a new COVID vaccine and has colleagues in Ukraine and children at the school. The Edinburgh charity Dnipro Kids, set up by Hibs FC fans after a Uefa Cup match in 2005, has gotten 48 Ukrainian orphans to safety across the Polish border but is struggling with UK government red tape to bring them to Scotland, where homes and care have been arranged. At his Glasgow bakery, Ukrainian national Yuriy Kachak's bake sale attracted hundreds of supporters a week ago and a donor matched the funds raised, bringing the total so far to more than £81,000.
