Toronto unveiled its first Reconciliation Action Plan, listing 28 targets to restore truth, justice and prosperity to Indigenous people. The plan consists of five themes: restore truth, right relations, share power, make financial reparations, and initiate actions for justice and the Indigenous Affairs Office. The city says a key priority will be to address barriers and colonial practices embedded in its policies. For 2022, the city aims to conduct city-wide reconciliation audits, apologize to the Mtis, improve relationships with treaty and territorial partners, increase access to affordable housing, and improve Indigenous economic development. Developed over three years with input FROM First Nations, Inuit, and Mtis community `member`s, organizations, elders, knowledge carriers, youth, and Indigenous employees and city allies, the plan will be a living document that will evolve, says Mayor John Tory.
