As of the fall of 2022, the University of California will waive tuition and fees for Native American students that are state residents and members of federally recognized tribes. The UC Native American Opportunity Plan will cover tuition and student service fees for students who are members of the 109 federally recognized Native American, American Indian, and Alaska Native tribes in California. The plan could benefit about 500 undergraduates and 160 graduate students. In the fall of 2021, 1,467 students identified as American Indian -- half a percent of the student body -- across University of California campuses.
