Cierra Kaler-Jones was a dance teacher, but her lessons often extended beyond the dance floorshe frequently taught her students, who were mostly Black girls, about Black and women's history and activism, something their school curriculums failed to capture. Kaler-Jones expanded this idea into a program that teaches Black history from a non-white perspective, providing a voice to Black girls and creating a tight community among students. A high school senior who participated in the program commented that these educational efforts are so important because "when you don't see yourself represented positively it just negatively affects how you see yourself."
