Saskatchewan, Canada's largest wind farm has opened near the small town of Assiniboia and will be able to produce 200 megawatts of power, enough to power 100,000 homes. The $340-million Golden South Wind Energy project has 50 turbines, an underground electrical collection system, and a transformer substation. Potentia Renewables broke ground in 2019, hiring 150 people to construct the wind farm. Seven permanent employees will maintain and run the turbines. Troy King of SaskPower said the Crown energy corporation will buy any energy Potentia develops and feed it into the Canadian province's power grid. Saskatchewan now has 600 megawatts of renewable energy generation, representing 20-25% of its total energy. SaskPower aims to get emissions to 50% below 2005 levels by 2030, and is looking at 2050 as its target for net zero.
