BlocPower’s "Civilian Climate Corps" program has trained roughly 1,500 New Yorkers so far, with 400 of them working full-time in green construction and clean energy jobs, and has completed projects in more than 1,200 buildings in the city's underserved communities, saving 20-40% on energy bills for low-income households. The unique approach is helping New York reach its climate goals while providing paid, on-the-job training to New Yorkers who live in neighborhoods with high rates of gun violence. Replacing gas-powered boilers with electric heat pumps is key to New York reaching its climate targets, and is projected to create or sustain 23,600 green construction jobs city-wide and 211,000 new clean energy jobs state-wide by 2030. BlocPower, which has projects in more than 25 US cities and plans to expand its Civilian Climate Corps nationwide, will "green" all 6,000 buildings in Ithaca, NY, over the next decade.
