A Polish startup has designed an award-winning "wind panel" that can generate power as a compact free-standing structure or as an enclosure. The device took second place and a prize of 300,000 zloty (€62,700) in a competition for clean energy solutions organized by ING Polska bank. The company, Panel Wiatrowy, says overall energy production will be comparable to solar installations with the same capacity and will provide a return on investment within three to seven years. The device is expected to last for at least 50 years. If used as a fence to enclose an area of 1000 m², the panels could generate 40 kW. If placed along a 1 km stretch of motorway, capacity could reach 200kW. With energy prices are soaring—about 70% of electricity coming from from coal—transforming Poland’s energy sector has become more urgent.
