It all started with an idea by the school librarian at Love Elementary, who suggested to fourth grade teacher, Ryan Brazil, that she make a book with her students. That idea has now become a published book, titled "Anti-Bias ABC's." Each letter of the alphabet, with its corresponding anti-bias word, explanation, and hand-drawn artwork were done entirely by all 26 of her students. Already, the book sold 106 copies as of May 2022. For young Raneil Canes, he chose the letter "U." He explained that, "'U' is for upstander. It means standing up for people that are different." For Brazil, anti-bias is very much a part of the daily curriculum and exercises in the class. "We talk daily about social justice and anti-bias and thought, 'It's perfect. That's what we need to do,'" she says. The kids were excited to hear that they had become published authors, as were their parents.
