15-year-old Dakota Perry from Alabama is an award winning inventor and environmentalist. Since the age of 10, Perry had a fascination building things, everything from drone and woodworking. "As far back as I can remember, I've always been someone who likes to figure out how different things work," she says. Perry's latest creation is a bubble barrier, which clears trash flowing through rivers and streams. Using compressed air that gushes out of diagonally placed pipe, the "bubble curtain" prevents debris from going further downstream. A conveyor belt hooked up to the apparatus then takes the debris to a dumpster. Furthermore, the ingenuity of Perry led her to make the apparatus entirely sustainable—the belt is powered by solar and the air compressor is powered by a waterwheel. Her creation placed 4th in an international science fair in the engineering mechanics category.
