On August 8, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced to have all of the city's airports, libraries, and water-purification plants to run 100% clean energy by 2025. The city leaders signed a $422 million agreement with Constellation New Energy Inc. and Swift Current Energy for the project to be underway. Following through with these plans will make Chicago one of the largest cities committed to clean energy. The initiative is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 290,000 metric tons per year, which is equivalent to over 62,000 passenger vehicles.
