Reita Green, the 86 year-old Wallpaper Queen who has been hanging wallpaper for 50 years, and Beverly Pate, a 28 year-old who is full of patience, kindness, and a can-do attitude, met when Pate wanted a white marble wallpaper hung. She found Green’s business online and when Green came over to do the wallpapering, Pate was inspired that then-84-year-old was doing all the work by herself. However, Pate was not the only one inspired. According to Green, a successful wallpaper-hanger must believe in themselves, have practice as well as patience, and she found Pate embodies all those qualities, and more. Inspired by how Pate hung all the curtain rods in her own bathroom using power tools, and how she insisted on paying Green for coming back to finish the wallpapering, Green invited Pate to her backyard for lunch, saying to herself, “I’ve got to get to know this woman.” Over food, Green asked if Pate wanted to learn wallpapering and Pate said, “Absolutely.” Over the next 1½ years, Green taught her the trade, and now the two ladies work together on the wallpapering business, problem-solving when challenges come up, and occasionally co-hosting a podcast, “Reita’s World," about living a good life. Brought together by wallpaper in Los Angeles, California, Reita Green and Beverly Pate formed a heartwarming and inseparable relationship. Even if they are not hanging wallpaper, they see each other almost everyday; and when they can’t, they always call, just like best friends. "See, I want to help save the world, and so does Beverly," Green said.
