The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to enforce a new system from April 2025 that will require home builders and developers to install solar panels on most new buildings and houses. The metropolitan government will submit revisions to a related ordinance to the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly during its December session. “Gaining understanding and cooperation from residents and business operators is indispensable for the smooth launch of the system,” said Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike. The system is expected to cover about 50 major home building companies. They will not have to install solar panels on all buildings they build but will be asked to meet a certain target in terms of the share of their buildings with solar panels.
