Spanning an 800-mile run between London and Edinburgh, the Lumo is all-electric train service. Though traveling by train is known for having less carbon emissions, they can also be more costly for passengers. The Lumo, however, hopes to address that with its average ticket price at £37. Since its inception one year ago, 1 million riders have boarded the Lumo— equivalent to 5,500 full air flights, saving at least 120,00 tons of carbon dioxide. In addition, the trains offer spaciousness, laptop tables, and individual reading lights. "The convenience, price and environmental impact of rail is well worth it," says Lumo's MD Martjin Gilbert.
