According to a recent nationally representative survey of over one thousand American parents, only 14% reported using the Golden Rule phrase -- treating others as you want to be treated -- with their children, and 28% said they were not unfamiliar with this ethical maxim. Puzzled by these findings, researchers who conducted the 2023 National Parent Survey on Raising Good Kids are probing for answers. They are also calling for concerted efforts to rebrand the Golden Rule and increase its visibility nationwide. After all, parents in the study seem to view character as important and want their children to care about values such as honesty, responsibility, and respect.
