It's never too late to honor service and dedication! Madge Brown, a remarkable 101-year-old woman from the Isle of Wight, recently achieved a long-overdue milestone by receiving an honorary teaching degree from the University of London. Decades ago, she completed a teaching course at Nonington College of Physical Education, and now she has been recognized for her dedication to education. Alongside 94-year-old Sheila Gordon, Brown became one of the first recipients of the university's honorary teaching degrees. The ceremony took place in February at Brown's residence, where she was presented with the degree by Professor Mary Stiasny. Reflecting on her teaching career, Brown described those days as the happiest of her life. She expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the challenging nature of her course. This well-deserved honor not only celebrates Brown's achievements but also acknowledges the enduring impact of educators who graduated from London-area teaching colleges between the 1930s and 1980s.
