According to FOX affiliate WXIX and Good Morning America, 66-year-old Ohio grandmother, Gail Rodgers, became a lifeguard for her local pool so it wouldn't have to close. It had been 50 years since Gail had last been a lifeguard, but when a lack of staff threatened to close the community pool on certain days, Rodgers became re-certified. Proving she was up for the task by completing the physically challenging demands of becoming a lifeguard, Rodgers treaded water, swam 300 yards and picked up a ten-pound brick from the bottom of the pool. It's been a joy for the 66-year-old lifeguard as she develops stronger community connections and fills a need within her community. Plus, Rodgers is enjoying the extra money that comes along with the job and the ability to set her own schedule. As she told GMA, "It doesn't get much better than that."
