A first-generation immigrant store owner, Hak Tong Kim, lost his entire inventory to looters during the recent civil unrest in Chicago. As riots broke out earlier this month, 20-30 people broke into his store, as he helplessly watched from the parking lot. Devastated, because he had no insurance for the loss, he was ready to close his business for good. Donations began pouring in from friends and strangers, an online page was setup, and over 6,300 people (and counting!) have contributed to cover his costs. Their goodwill has recovered almost two-thirds of his losses, and is restoring his hope of re-opening, not to mention his faith in humanity.
