Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell leads with love and grows his players to be leaders. “I think that’s the best way to empower this whole organization, to build leaders upon leaders and empower them,” O’Connell said in an interview with CNN’s Poppy Harlow. Vulnerability may not be something we envision happening inside of a football locker room, but it’s how O’Connell rolls. “It’s what I view as the standard and first things first is you have to have a world where you’ve got to be willing to be vulnerable enough to say the word ‘love,’ to say ‘We do this because we love our brothers,’ and when you use this term, I think it takes these guys to a place where they think about brotherhood and teammates and what that means to them, almost as a family member.” He seeks to be a resource of love and support for his players and finds that when he shows up the same way day after day, his players trust him.
