Medellin, Colombia, nicknamed the City of Eternal Spring due to its year-round temperate climate, is keeping cool through a network of 30 “Green Corridors’ with 2.5 million plants and 880,000 trees. Trees are cared for by 150 citizen-gardeners from disadvantaged and minority backgrounds, with support of 15 specialized forest engineers. Infrastructure has been greened and government buildings now have green roofs and vertical gardens.
