Near a strip mall and shopping centers, a new housing complex in Santa Clara, California, will have its own working farm. 'Agrihood', partly funded by an affordable housing bond, will provide 365 units for a mix of generations and incomes. Produce from its 1.5-acre farm will be brought to the site each week for residents to buy at a deep discount. The site was once a demonstration farm, and the city required Agrihood to have open space. The 5.8-acre site also has a cafe, community room, and shed, and residents will be able to run most errands on foot because the retail stores are so close.
