This heartwarming New York Times article offers snippets of many peoples' stories of reunion after the long-awaited reopening of the US for international travel on November 8. This ends more than 18 months of restrictions on international travel that separated families and cost the global travel industry hundreds of billions of dollars in tourism revenue. There are stories of grandparents meeting their grand children for their first time, stories of fiancs reunited after long periods of separation and more. Airline workers in London's Heathrow airport dressed in costumes to welcome US-bound travelers on the first flights after the restrictions were lifted. Large US tourist destinations eagerly awaited the arrival of foreigners after being severely impacted by the lack of travel in 2020 and much of 2021. Under the new rules, fully vaccinated travelers are allowed to enter the United States if they can show proof of vaccination and a negative coronavirus test taken within three days before departure. Unvaccinated Americans and children under 18 are exempt from the requirement, but must take a coronavirus test within 24 hours of travel.
