Eighty-six-year-old Sid Sidhu, of Victoria, BC, fell in love with stargazing in 1983. Two years later, he joined the Victoria Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. He then spent decades promoting astronomy in Greater Victoria. Four years ago, the Victoria Centre nominated him for having an asteroid named after him, and for the next few months, Asteroid Sidhu will be visible through Sidhu's telescope in the mini-observatory at his home on Vancouver Island. Thousands of Victorians have received their first glimpse of heavenly bodies, thanks to Sidhu. I can't think of a more deserving person to receive such an honor, said professional astronomer Dave Balam, describing Sidhu as humble and extremely competent. As for Sidhu, he's finding it hard to take in. I still don't believe it, he said. It hasn't sunk in yet.
