As consumers become more aware of the negative impacts plastic packaging has on human health and the environment, there is a rising demand for compostable foodservice packaging, which are made from recyclable and plant-based materials. Not only are compostable packaging materials non-toxic and safer to use, they degrade more quickly and consume less energy in production compared to standard plastic. Europe, the current global leader in the compostable foodservice packaging industry, is taking serious measures to reduce overall packaging use and waste.
