When Lori Irby, business manager of an assisted-living center, brought a box of kittens to work in 2019, it was because she was a new ASPCA foster caregiver for kittens abandoned at animal shelters and had to feed them every few hours. Now it's therapy for residents. For the past three years, Wednesday has been “Kitten Therapy Day”, attracting about a dozen residents who play with the kittens and help them become “socialized” around humans. “There’s just something really warm and comforting about holding a purring kitten,” Irby says. About half of the 200 residents have been part of kitten therapy.
