In an endeavor to restore Benin to its former cultural splendor, the French government returned twenty-six artifacts seized in 1892 by its soldiers to the home country. The works include warrior dance staffs, royal thrones, and the doors of the Palace of Abomey. The artifacts were graciously welcomed by Benin President Patrice Talon, who said, "This return is a testimony to what we have been. A testimony that we existed before, a testimony to what we have known." The artifacts will be making their way to a new museum built in Abomey.
