Susan Orrego and her husband recently moved to America from Colombia; she posted on Nextdoor that she wanted to understand and experience the Thanksgiving holiday. She said they wanted to spend the thanksgiving holiday with an American family. More than 200 people responded with invitations to their Thanksgiving table. The Orregos selected Carol Lesser and her family for their Thanksgiving experience and felt an immediate connection to Lesser and her multi-generational family. "These are really troubled times when there's tremendous distrust and animosity and division. And to have an experience where you can meet someone who's a 'stranger' and have them feel so familiar, it makes the world seem smaller," said Lesser. Orrego said this, "Carol was the candle who opened the magic box of kindness. So, be kind. Kindness is free."
